HMD said in Barcelona THEMSELVES that they have shipped 70 million Nokia-branded phones last year. So there is a hard number to use for adjusting the analyst estimates.

Blackberry only sold 850000 phone last year, and they were proud of it

Nokia phones won't be coming to the US this year, Florian Seiche, HMD's CEO and president said in an interview after the event.

It'll have to be, because HMD has some lofty goals for Nokia phones. "Our ambition is to become again one of the leading players, which means, top five or better in the next three to five years," said Seiche.

HMD claims to be in the top five phone makers in 15 markets already

Seiche doesn't seem phased, though. He explained with a breezy cheerfulness that HMD will just focus on reinforcing its footprint in existing markets where it's enjoyed success this year -- regions including Europe, India, Indonesia and Russia -- by offering a much wider range of phones.

I'm encouraged that Nokia is putting out some quality, throwback, feature phones. My mom doesn't need or want a smarphone, but she still needs a quality phone. Unfortunately the Nokias aren't available on her carrier.

Hi gang

numbers are up (final 2017 and Q4)

Hi Jaakko

Thanks! I saw that too. But it is not the number I was hoping to hear. 70 million is total phones so it includes the dumbphones which sold more than 60 million of the 70 million. I had hoped HMD would 'brag' about having passed 10 million smartphones shipped so far, which would be a strong sign to confirm the numbers we're estimating. That they didn't commit to the 10M smartphone number, tells me that we may be too optimistic, and HMD hasn't yet passed 10M cumulative sales. Then the Q4 sales could be a bit under 4.4M like say 4.1M or 3.7M or something like that... of course it is possible HMD did pass 10M but just don't want to mention the number, for whatever reason...

Is Nokia/HMD already doing phones as they always did, in Nokia-owned and Nokia-designed factories of extremely high tech and quality?
