Just a quick note to my readers who may be waiting for the final Q1 smartphone marketshare race results. I always calculate the total market size as the average of the 'big 4' analyst houses who report on the smartphone market: Canalys, Gartner, IDC and Strategy Analytics. They usually always report right after the end of the first month of the next quarter. So they would have reported around April 1, for Q1 which ran January-March. Canalys, IDC and Strategy Analytics have given their counts but Gartner has not. And Gartner is exceptionally delayed, its possible they won't give us a count this quarter, and only give us one for Q2 somewhere in early July. So I'll wait a few more days. If we don't get a Gartner number soon, I'll use the average of the other 3 houses and calculate the Q1 results based on that. Hold on, we will get a Q1 result... And if Gartner gives us their count later, I can come and do the market share adjustments then (would typically only move market shares by some fraction of a percent, so say from 5.4% to 5.2% and Gartner's number might be that close to the average that it won't matter haha). The analysis is coming, hold on...
@Leebase
That's a very good point. The one who controls the entertainment industry controls half of the culture. It doesn't matter if China is becoming a bigger economy if the United States has that great influence all over the world.
"Designed by Apple in California Assembled in China" tells how it is. While the iPhone you may have was assembles in China, it was people living in the United States making the calls what will be designed. Even the Chinese designs on smartphones are basically mimicking what Google and Apple have been doing. That's some real power. Forcing the designers of a bigger economy to copy you instead of delivering new and fresh designs.
