Hi all readers
Thank you for many good comments in the recent blog postings. I've had some very busy times but its nicely slowing down now, I expect to have more time to blog shortly. Let me just mention relevant news in past week or ten days or so, most of this is obvious, but also my quick comment or two
Microsoft tablet - this is a dangerous move by Microsoft, where Ballmer shows the Evil Empire is not done being Evil, it wants to grow to be an even more Evil Empire. Previously when Microsoft produced hardware (Xbox, Zune, Kin etc) it didn't move into the domain of its core business partner equipment vendors (PC makers). Now with the tablet, it does so very blatantly. This is clearly noted by the 'partners' who are not happy. It also is clear warning to all other Microsoft 'partners' to beware, Ballmer wants to screw everybody.
And talking about Not Being Evil Enough As An Empire - Microsoft will now also make Skype more evil for us - didn't we all want this, eh - yes, Skype will get advertising for our free voice calls. Nice move Ballmer. Thanks!
Of those partners, Nokia is now thrown under the bus. The story is now confirmed that the current Lumia line will not be able to be upgraded to Windows 8. That means Elop who Osborned Nokia's smartphones (by setting his platforms on fire with his notorious memo last year) finds that his 'partner' Microsoft has now Osborned the biggest supplier of Windows Phone smartphones, Nokia, and thus Ballmer set Elop's only remaining platform on fire. Ah, the Ying and Yang of life, when you sleep with the Microsoft, you become essentially Micro and Soft. Yes, you get burned. I thought we all knew this by now.. T-Mobile of Germany has already said they will stop sales of Lumia 900 because it can't be upgraded. This will be done openly, or behind the scenes, by most of the remaining carriers/operators who were duped into taking any of the Lumia smartphones into their sales offering - and those CEOs will not forget the lesson they learned about how far you can trust Elop. If you thought Nokia's smartphone sales headaches were painful with the 'carrier boycott' as I have been reporting - or the reluctance to sell as its been reported by some more Nokia-friendly sources - that now got far worse.
The amazing success that has been the failure of Lumia line so far? Finally even Microsoft admits that its Windows Phone partners have not been particularly successful, which is part of the reason why they decided to launch their tablet. This means you Nokia: your Lumia strategy has failed, so says not Tomi Ahonen, so says your 'partner' Microsoft.. This was before they decided to throw Nokia under the bus by Osborning the current Lumia line.
In other Tablets news - remember me saying its a fool's errand for handset maker to try to transition to tablets (ie its stupid for handset makers like Motorola, RIM etc, while it is yes a smart strategy for PC makers like Apple and Samsung for example). Now LG says the same, they are discontinuing their tablet projects and focus only on (Android based) smartphones. An attorney might say: I rest my case, Milord.
Meanwhile on HTC, they said they don't want to pursue low-cost smartphones. In Sammy's corner, Samsung's Galaxy S3 is spreading to many markets to strong reviews and haha, yeah, T-Mo Germany? When they said no more Lumia 900, what will they offer their customers instead? Galaxies of course. Now Samsung should send some champagne also to Microsoft for helping sell more Samsung Galaxies (running Android).
On iNews, no word on when we will see the next iPhone. (Did I blog about whats in the new iPhone OS? No? Sorry, yes, as usual, the 'amazing' iPhone iOS 'developments' tend to be 'me too' features that we had on 'obsolete' smartphone operating systems like .. Symbian .. YEARS ago... haha. But iPhone users are like children, they like their shiny toys, which are very simple to use, have very basic and even crippled features, with preferrably no more than one button to push, and then when Apple says look, now we will have turn-by-turn navigation, the Apple fans will all smile brightly and say 'ooh' at the big Apple party event.. - sorry, was that a bit harsh? Remember I LOVE Apple and all things Apple. Its just that the iPhone and iOS is not, repeat NOT, the most advanced thing on the planet. Its just loved by the marketing and advertising and hollywood types who like shiny things with Apple logos - and yes, me too..)
Yeah, lots to write about. I'll have my proper blog about the MS tablet up next, hopefully tomorrow. Meanwhile, keep up the great discussions here in the comments at the relevant blog articles.
