It is ten years almost to the day, that I launched my consultancy into this space of mobile. Back on October 1, 2001, when I left the comfort of my window office at Nokia HQ, and set up my shingle, I was to become an author one day. I had one book coming out 'soon' and I had started to work on my second book. I never thought I'd have five books in me, far less twelve and counting..
Today the hottest topic in the world of mobile is of course mobile money, including mobile payments, mobile coupons, mobile banking, m-commerce, credit cards on mobile and the mobile wallet. Very many of the big players in mobile have already thrown their hats into the ring about mobile money, from the 'usual suspects' like NTT DoCoMo, Nokia and Vodafone; to players in the financial industry like Visa, Mastercard, Standard Chartered Bank etc; to more radical players disrupting the industry led by none other than Google (with rumors suggesting Apple to be next). Look at Google. Not content in being the biggest internet company and arguably biggest advertising company, who says the future of the web is mobile, Google now says their number two priority is.. mobile money.
So with that, I am proud to present my twelfth book (and sixth released in ebook format), Tomi Ahonen Pearls Vol 3: Mobile Money. Like the previous two Volumes in my Pearls series, this Volume 3 has 50 case studies of my best and most favorite stories around this topic area. If its been in the news about innovations in mobile money, you will find it here. The Coca Cola vending machines are here, Smart Money from the Philippines is here, as is NTT DoCoMo's Osaifu Keitai and FeliCa. Visa finds its mobile credit cards discussed, as is Safaricom's and Vodafone's M-Pesa from Kenya, Mobile parking from Norway and Finnair's mobile check-in. London's Congestion charges, Helsinki's public transport m-tickets are covered as are the Austrian train tickets paid by mobile. Charities are included with the World Wildlife Fund, as are rock concerts with Robbie Williams and virtual world payments from Cyworld to Habbo Hotel.
There are mobile lotteries, mobile gambling, mobile banking, concert tickets, mobile credit checks, paying government fines and fees by mobile, instant mobile loans, and insurance. All significant mobile money related technologies are covered from near field to QR codes to SMS to SIM cards.
As is typical in my Pearls series, each Pearl includes the image of the original "Pearl" Powerpoint slide as shown either in one of my public presentations (where I have shown over 1,300 Pearls by now) or in my private workshops (where I have added another over 5,000 Pearls shown so far). Each Pearl includes the facts of where and when it was first shown and what was or were the original sources of data to generate the slide. Differing from my workshops, here in the text of the book, most of the Pearls will have significant updates to the story, added to the facts as originally presented, including quotations from management invololved, and usage statistics etc where available. There are also significant observations on where and by what companies/brands that idea has been copied or adapted further. In relevant instances there is also discussion on how that story was received by the conference audience etc. Each of the 50 Pearls case studies gets on average about two pages of coverage in the eBook.
Just like the two previous Pearls Volumes, this Volume 3 runs 171 pages. It is in unrestricted pdf file format, pages formated for the small screen and at 2.5 MB in size, the ebook file fits easily onto your smartphone so you can have the 50 best case examples of mobile money right in your pocket every day. At only 9.99 Euros in cost, Pearls Vol 3: Mobile Money is also a great value. I have just uploaded the first preliminary ordering page for Pearls Vol 3. More information will be on that site soon, including some sample pages. But if you feel mobile money is relevant to your business, or you'd like to understand this part of digital convergence more, please consider buying my twelfth book, Pearls Vol 3: Mobile Money now, for immediate online delivery to you today.
Tomi, as much as we love your blog and books, please, get a designer for that hideous cover :)

Tomi,
I dont understand how you make your money.
Writing evryday on this blog dont make any dollars, there are no ads here.
Writing a 171 page book selling it for just 10 euro wont make much money, how many books do you sell: 500 - 1000? Put tax on that and your profit stays on 5 000 euro.
Tomi, are you making any money on this at all?

If we only had some God in the country's laws, instead of beng in such a sweat to get him into the Constitution, it would be better all around. (Mark Twain, American writer)

thanks very much for sharing! it make us in deep thinking! The way you have “blended” (hehe) it all together makes this look like a solid, whole product, as good as any Pixar short. Probably better. But then again: That’s my opinion.
