A big milestone for us here at the Communities Dominate blog and my thanks to all of you, our readers. I know very many of our readers are regulars who come here often. Today we passed the one million page views moment. That is a level I never imagined seeing, when we started in 2005.
We have been in existence for 5 years. We've generated over 1,400 blog postings - on average that is one for every weekday of the past 5 years. And better than that, you our readers have kindly responded with over 4,300 responses! Thats almost exactly 3 responses on average per blog posting. This has been a wonderful dialogue here with first just the readers of our book Communities Dominate Brands, the signature book of this blog; and then over time as we gained a bit of a reputation, many newer visitors who discovered us for many other related topic areas.
As regular long time followers know, this blog was started with my dear friend and co-author Alan Moore, who then continued to blog with me here for more than four years, until the spring of 2009, when his schedule and his next book release didn't allow for time to continue the hectic pace of blogging we had grown used to here. Alan still posts occasional commentary at his company site SMLXL and sends his best regards.
I still try to do it. Sometimes its a week or more that I simply can't find the time but other times I am here nearly every day. And yes, many regular followers have observed that my blogs have grown far longer recentlty. Less frequent but far more wordy. That is of course primarily due to Twitter, where I am @tomiahonen and I tweet several times per week. I do my short comments on Twitter now, stuff that previously I would write short blogs about. And then when I find a Twitter discussion where the 140 character limit simply doesn't do justice to some 'big issue' - then I come here to do a blog, and the words just pour out. I am sorry for the verbosity and I appreciate your patience for reading those chapter-length blogs all the way to the end.
And for those not regular visitors, note that this is a pure hobby blogsite, we have no advertising banners, so it gives us no 'benefit' whatsoever to in any way try to inflate our page views. Obviously after 5 years of blogs, this site is not attempting to be sold or anything. Its just here to share and connect, as Communities Dominate.
Most of all, we set this blog to connect with our readers. The surprise was of course the blogosphere, how many great friendships were made through comments left here, or a link to a story or someone else blogging about what we wrote. I very often hear via private emails from our readers too, people who may not want to post a comment in the open, and those are most wonderful contacts as well. I cannot express how much I personally am delighted whenever I find comments left here by you, our readers, and many of you are so regular, we now extend discussions across multiple threads and I even anticipate some of you to return to comment on a given story, etc. I also am thrilled whenever someone steps out from a crowd at some conference in some strange city, and says 'Tomi I read your blog' - it is wonderful to meet so many of you also in person. And even better when from time to time, that first meeting includes a well-worn copy of our book, and you the reader asks me for my autograph. I love to give it to any reader.
So its a big day here at the CDB blog. Its time to celebrate. I have a couple of gifts to you, that I have been preparing for a while already. The problem was that hassle just the past weeks, with the CTIA blog story and the App store math, that drove surprisingly big visitor numbers, so I had expected us to hit the million visitor level towards the end of July, not now in the middle of July. So my 'big surprise gift' is not ready yet, but its coming. I have another one though, for some of our regular readers, coming today, as a posting here on this blog. A rare treat from your faithful consultant haha.
Thank you all for visiting the Communities Dominate blog. As long as you find value from this blog, I will keep on posting here. As you well know, my personal motto is 'In a connected age, sharing information is power' and this blog epitomizes that philosophy. And it is truly an honor to have a 'fan base' of regular returning readers of such high level of knowhow and intelligent discussion as we have regularly in the comments.
THANK YOU
Tomi T Ahonen :-)

It has been a sheer delight reading your blog, which I only discovered a few month ago after being introduced to your presentation about the Mobile space. Being European living in USA getting a different view point regarding mobile market and mobile marketing is very, very hard. (See AT&T delusions etc.) Your blog brings it all in the world's perspective and I feel I know much more because of you. That you have a wicked sense of humor and a very informal style despite your expertise and vast knowledge has made your blog a MUST read in our household. And most days I retweet your comments and links to spread the word about this blog in the US, and one-by-one the illusion and delusion will stop, or so I hope:-)
Thank you, Mr. Ahonen.

Congratulations.
Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm and experience of the global
mobile communication market
Like many here, I have only discovered your blog these past couple of months.
But what an education it has been, each and every read.
As a frequent traveller to Japan the past decade.
Its great to see you are well aware of the developments within the
Japanese Domestic Market.
Something most of the English tech websites fail to track, though it
does seem to be improving as time goes by.
Likewise news of developments in South Korea.
I look forward to purchasing your book.
And hope to meet you next time you are public speaking in my part of the globe.
To shake your hand, and thank you for the pleasure that is reading your blog.
Which has well and truly opened my eyes.
Thank you.
