I spoke today at FIFA 2010 conference in London. The event was most rewarding in having excellent speakers with very good stories and insights, and I will be blogging about it. But one speaker and topic was just amazing and I have to start with this.
Chris Ward is known in the UK for many wonderful charity events such as the Red Nose Day and Comic Relief. Chris spoke just before the lunch break and told the event about 1Goal.
The 1Goal project is part of the 'Education for All' initiative worldwide that is aiming to get rid of illiteracy within our lifetime, by allowing every child to have an education and helping all adults who want to learn to be able to do so. This international initiative has already helped 40 million more children go to school but still today 75 million school-aged children are not in school, and 776 million adults are illiterate.
But this is one massive socially responsible global project which can be solved in our lifetime. It can be solved! By now they have already cut down the total number of children not in school, down by one third.
The 1Goal project has as its aim to get every child to school worldwide by 2015. And now, we heard from Chris that there is a related FIFA 2010 tournament initiative called 1Goal. It has a huge list of soccer/football stars signed up to support it. The 1Goal project has big entertainment industry celebrities supporting it, and it has essentially all major political leaders supporting it.
They are not asking you to send money - although of course they will also be able to use money donations. They are trying to get governments worldwide to join. So it needs primarily your support - our readers and your friends and colleagues and contacts - to express support to the project. Then obviously there are the various brands and companies that will be doing advertising and sponsorships of the FIFA 2010 tournament, who can also join in supporting the 1Goal initiative.
I immediately joined and will be doing what I can to support 1Goal. We - our generation - can get rid of one of the worst injustices on the planet, lack of education and thus over time, get rid of illiteracy - in our lifetime.
Educated people have lower rates of illness. Literate parents have lower rates of child mortality. Educated people live longer. Education adds to wages. Educated people can make better use of resources such as food, energy and medicine. Education is one of the strongest - if not the strongest - element to drive a nation's wealth over longer periods of time. So education helps reduce poverty, hunger, suffering. And here is what really makes me weep - of the 75 million kids who are denied the chance to go to school today, the vast majority are girls.
This is something we all can do - they are not asking you to send money. They want us to join and support the 1Goal initiative. This is pure 'Communities Dominate' or what Jonathan MacDonald would say is 'Every Single One Of Us'. We can really change the world. Imagine in our lifetime if we can eradicate illiteracy and put every child into school within five years. It can be done. Please do join 1Goal.
There is a website, please first, go visit the website and read the short summary of 1Goal. Then please - we don't often ask you to join in our 'Communities Dominate' types of actions, but this is honestly a purely good project. Lets get every child into school by 2015. The FIFA 2010 tournament is supporting this goal, so please - if you write a blog or if you have a Twitter feed or if you speak in public or write etc, please do join 1Goal and help publicize this initiative. But first please visit their website to see what its all about.
Thank you!

The new brand of clothes are nothing like the old one. Right now, almost everything is done in different countries and then imported to the United States to be sold to consumers.
