Wolf Blitzer at the CNN Situation Room just a moment ago flashed a news story headline "Going Wireless" and expressed the "big news" that American households are cutting the cord and going completely wireless. Mobile phone-only (ie in American telecoms-speak, cellphone-only) households on the rise. DUH ! CNN, come on, this is NOT news. We've reported on the phenomenon globally for a decade. Over a third of European households have cut the cord already and among the Industrialized World the leading country is Finland which passed the point of more than half of all households abandoning the fixed landline back in 2006 !!! as we reported at this blog.
We've said its a universal trend, and provided evidence including the US market. So sorry, CNN, you're years behind the curve on this story today. And literally, if you were following our blog you caught this trend that is now "breaking news" on Blitzer's Situation Room, and knew it 3 years ago.
As to how can you benefit from this development? What does it mean to your business, whatever that business is, that your customers shift their telecoms traffic from fixed landlines to mobile (and shift messaging from email to SMS, and shift internet use fromn the PC based internet to the mobile internet - all global trends) - the business opportunity for you is outlined in my latest hardcover book, Mobile as 7th of the Mass Media. If you want to read a free samp[le of 30 pages, 2 full chapters and one case study of that book, drop me an email to tomi (at) tomiahonen (dot) com
