Justin Oberman has written a great piece at the Tech President blog along very much the lines of our thinking of Communities Dominate. Yes, it is a great innovation what the Obama campaign is doing with SMS in the US elections, but that is still "orchestrated" use of this tool. The real power comes from the ground-up, in "organic" use of communications, like the Estrada overthrow in the Philippines in 2001 via SMS smart mobs, that we discuss in our book for example. I think its a great blog article about the distinctions, and has good lessons for all in traditional marketing, PR and advertising, about using new digital media, and attempting to control or manage the communications.
