Our friend Martin Sauter of Wireless Moves sent us the link to this story. Newsweek originally covered it. People start to create ads of the products they like. In this example, some random user created an ad for the Nokia Sports Tracker, which was shot in Curacao, the Caribbean island. See the ad and story here.
Yes, user-generated ads? We told you so, ha-ha.. Yes, this is what we keep saying, Generation C (Community Generation) wants to participate, to co-create. This is the principle for example behind Blyk. We are seeing a radical transformation of the advertising industry. Look at the last two advertising postings I just made, about Northwest Airlines and Tohato chips in Japan. And yes, this story is also a great example of just how big the change is - now Nokia wants to find the original creator of that Curacao clip, so they can get the rights to use it in their advertising... Thanks Martin, great find!
UPDATE AND CORRECTION - actually it turns out to be original Nokia N82 marketing material. There was a follow-up posting at the Wireless Moves blog, by J-P. See this link http://betalabs.nokia.com/blog/2008/05/02/businessweek-article-and-a-strange-youtube-video/#comment-13939
Sorry about that...
How cool is that Tomi !!!!
In Fans, Gamers and Bloggers, by our friend Henry Jenkins. He says this
"Fandom is not about Bourdieu's notion of holding art at a distance, it's about having control and mastery over art by pulling it close and integrating it into your sense of self.
Meaning is contextualized. It grows out of an affective set of experiences and is the vehicle for creating social connections with other people"
Right on :-))

Hi Tomi, I was just about to comment and set the facts straight, but you seemed to notice it yourself... Sorry about the misleading blog post - we seriously didn't know who had done that video (sometimes, in a big company, one hand doesn't know what the seventeenth hand is doing).
In any case, we do have plenty of examples about "fan" created Youtube advertising. Of course, they tend to be less traditional-ad-like compared with this one.
cheers,
- tommi (manager of nokia beta labs)

The root of your writing while sounding reasonable at first, did not sit very well with me after some time. Somewhere throughout the sentences you actually managed to make me a believer but just for a while. I nevertheless have got a problem with your jumps in assumptions and you might do well to help fill in those breaks. When you can accomplish that, I would surely end up being fascinated.
