Just a brief comment as we go into the first Grand Prix weekend with the 2008 Formula One season commencing in Australia now. I have blogged at length about the season to come (and some thoughts about the past season) at my F1 blog - Tomi Ahonen F1 Blog - so if anyone of our readers here happens to be a fellow F1 fan, join me there for much more. But I can't wait. The last time we had a Finnish driver wearing the Number 1 on the nose of his F1 car, was Mika Hakkinen driving the McLaren returning for his second championship, in 2000. Now for 2008 we have Kimi Raikkonen the returning champ for Ferrari. And my fellow Finns will also be cheering Heikki Kovalainen (now at McLaren) and we also have kind of "adopted" a third "almost-Finnish" F1 driver, the German Nico Rosberg who drives for Williams, who is the son of Finnish F1 Champion Keke Rosberg. This season I hope we'll be lucky enough once to see all three drivers on the top steps of the podium. And one more weird tidbit, this is the "Season of the Sons" (as opposed to Terry Jacks's 1970s hit pop song Seasons in the Sun) - as for the first time ever, among the 22 F1 drivers are three sons of former F1 drivers. Nelson Piquet Jr is son of 3 time champion from Brazil, Nelson Piquet. Nico is son of Keke Roseberg. And the third son is rookie Kazuki Nakajima, the son of the first successful Japanese F1 driver, Satoru Nakajima who is the second driver at Williams. So we have the Season of the Sons.. But yes, more car racing at my blog. We now here at Communities Dominate return to our regularly scheduled programming..

Hi Tim
Yes, great start for the season. Lewis gets a 9 point head-start but Ferrari and Kimi are going to get right onto his tail.
Meanwhile, Heikki Kovalainen is going to be strong inside McLaren to keep Lewis honest. BMW did not lose a step over the winter and Heidfeld and Kubica will be there to fight for podiums. And Williams has made giant gains giving Nico a real chance. And while Renault isn't the powerhouse of two years ago, they are a resilient team and fully energized to give Fernando a winning car.
Not to forget Kimi's team mate, Massa will also nibble at Kimi's heals. We are in for a fantastic competitive season. I am very happy it didn't start with a 1-2 for Ferrari in the first race. They will have to win it, earn it, if Kimi wants to repeat (but of course, I believe he also will repeat...)
Here's to an even more close season than last year.
Tomi :-)
