Well here is an interesting twist and this follows on the earlier story we reported that Starbucks is moving into the music sales space. Now ex-Beetle Paul McCartney has become the first artist to give a coffee shop chain an exclusive deal to sell his newest album. Apparently on the release date (which probably was Monday) all Starbucks played the new album all day.
Is this the wave of the future? If we think in terms of a splintering of the channel, yes. If we think of ever more sales outlets, yes. But the big picture? Digital content will go to digital channels, I don't see music album sales migrating from record stores to coffee shops - this is a side-story where the main story is the migration of music via digital to online and mobile.
