They say in war the first casualty is the truth. We reported on the Fox News story that a US army sergeant was refused a sale of mattresses and insulted in the process. We did get most of the story right, but it was not sleeping mattresses what Sergeant Hess was trying to order. The Navy News did a follow-up piece which explicitly says it was wrong reporting at many news and blogsites that these were for sleeping. Sgt Hess is an engineer, whose current task was to upgrade living conditions in the work areas for the US soldiers. And his e-mail was to purchase floor mats (carpeting) to fix issues with concrete floors.
The quoted insults however were real. So from our point, the story is still valid. And of course by now there is more.
First, as the story spread, so too was the rather typical American way of sudden community activation. The Navy News story reports that people were trying to send mattresses to the soldiers in Iraq etc. And that clearly these mattresses were not needed...
Then the other twist. The owner of the online mattress retailer is a muslim (who did not send the insulting e-mail. That person has been fired). Now the muslim community fear a backlash. But at least as of 24th January the local police said there had been no threats or vandalism. Lets hope this story can now pass. We'll keep our eyes on the story.

Both are required for physical and mental activity to create energy. A good night’s sleep is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle and in rejuvenating the body, mind and soul. So it makes a lot of sense to invest in a good mattress and pillow to improve your comfort and overall health. Improving you r sleep quality can be as simple as sleeping on a better mattress and pillow.
