First it was the Economist cover story in March that we blogged about, now Business Week also runs a cover story on the digitally connected consumer, the rapidly growing community power. Business Week entitled its cover story this week as "The Power of Us". As regular readers of our blog can imagine, obviously this cover story runs over the same ground as our book Communities Dominate Brands.
Do these statements sound familiar? "Oh My News... is the sixth-most influential media outlet in Korea"; "Laptops are passé. A new generation of hand-held devices... (can get you connected anywhere)"; and "Crowds... are smarter at solving many problems than even the brightest individuals" - sounds very similar to Alan's framous quotation "Nobody is as smart as everybody." Yes, the 52 page "Future of Tech" special is an excellent read and strongly supports all of the themes from our book, from blogging and Kryptonite and Dan Rather to virtual worlds and smart mobs. Anyone reading the special issue can then pick up our book for more in-depth discussion of these trend.
In March the Economist said that community-empowered customers were such a dramatic change to business, that it threatened the very survival of all businesses in all industries. Today's Business Week says this is the biggest change to business "...since the Industrial Revolution". We agree obviously.
