Hi Toni,
Danske Banks' Mobile Pay service is used by 'everyone' here in Denmark. Penetration must be much higher than 30%. Of the adult population, probably 70-80%. Only people without a smartphone do not use it. Also, it is not a requirement to be a customer at Danske Bank to use it directly to transfer money to and from non-customers - it's open to customers of other banks to. About 70% of user are customers in other banks than Danske Bank (according to Danske Bank's web site). A few other stats: 9 out 10 smartphone user has installed the app. over 3.4 million use the service regularly (population in DK: 5.5 mill.), on more than 6.000 webshops you can pay using Mobile Pay=no need to type in credit card information, more than 40.000 street stores accapt payment with Mobile Pay.

the service is so popular that few Danes carry cash these days. so many have no wallet. All cards are in the smartphone cover.

For your info (I teach e-commerce).
Best regards,

Tomi T Ahonen

Hi Elo

Thank you very much for the updated numbers! This stuff happens so fast that numbers which seem recent and amazingly large, can become obsolete real fast when the truth is even bigger. I updated the blog and credited you for the correction. Mange Tak!

High speed rail kills airlines in the medium range distance(600km) and the number of passengers doesn't even need to be so big. Any million to million city route probably makes sense.

About landlines. I think you are wrong about them. Landlines don't have SMS and other services so the future probably will be "cabled" mobile phones (computer with a headset/microphone that fake a mobile)

Havesome

Penetration. I love that. Apple will be huge when the market matures in the developing countries. Apple penetration of those markets will hit beyond the roof. That Android goes down the way of Dodo.
