Now 5 billion dollars, mobile social networking still exploding
Last year about this time we reported that mobile social networking had reached 3.45 Billion dollars in service revenues worldwide in 2006, in this blog entry: Mobile Social Networking worth 3.45 B dollars.
Now Informa's latest Mobile Industry Outlook report for 2007 reveals that yes, mobile social networking services did continue their dramatic growth for the past 12 months, and are already worth over 5 billion dollars in 2007.
For those who are not regular readers of our blog, this means that the industry around various online social networking sites we know and love, Facebook, MySpace, Flickr, YouTube etc - and all the multiplayer online gaming such as World of Warcraft, CounterStrike, Lineage, etc - and the multitude of virtual worlds such as Second Life, Habbo Hotel, Cyworld, etc - for all their online internet content/subscription revenues today - the MOBILE social networking revenues are already MUCH bigger.
This IS the business to be in. (and those who are interested, Alan Moore and I will be running the Mobile Social Networking one-day executive short course again for Oxford University in December with Steven Jones, so put that on your calendar). And yes, if you haven't read it yet, do read our book Communities Dominate Brands to get started..
