Tomi and I are fascinated by what new propositions can be created and delivered in a connected world.
As the Tomi says
Sharing information is power
So how about parkingsearch.com
ParkingSearch.com maintains a national database of parking spots that enable buyers or renters to locate spots with an easy-to-use web interface. Buyers can utilize the search engine to quickly locate available parking spots for sale or rent in their targeted geographical location(s). The site allows sellers to "post" their spot(s) for sale or rent."The problem is not necessarily with the supply of parking, but in knowing where to find it. The ParkingSearch.com web site empowers users with a set of tools and search capabilities to find parking spots in less time than it takes to buy a newspaper," said Stephen Sinclair, Jr., Co-Founder.
ParkingSearch.com "Puts the Breaks" on time often wasted searching through classified ads or generic listing web sites. The web site lists ads by sellers or renters for an annual fee.
According to an International Parking Institute study, $43 billion of the American economy comes directly from the parking industry. The study further notes that there is an estimated 105 million parking spaces in the United States, with twice the number of off-street parking spots than on-street. There is a real need for the service ParkingSearch.com provides: pinpointing parking spaces and rates for the two hundred million drivers on our roads today.
From a brand perspective, we talk about brands being
1). Life enabling
2). Life simplifying
3). Navigational
And better facillitators.
A half step is not enough.
"A half step is not enough."
I couldn't agree with you more. And this service is a quarter of a step at most -- How on earth did they end up providing only a flash site??? It doesn't work properly even on my FF 2.0. Most of the people aren't cruising around with their laptops connected to the the web via a cell phone.
This kind of system should - at least - have a simple mobile version of the service mobile.parkingsearch.com or something. It would be even better if one could use it via sms. ... Oh, I forgot, the Americans don't know how to use text messages.
Well, anyways: flash - Oh dear...

an interesting point. Though it seems in the US for some, mobile is a blind spot for many companies
yet... and yet ...the second US Idol at that tme was the biggest texting event in the world & 30% of those people hsd never sent a text message before. Question: how do you change peoples behaviour around technology?
Parking search without mobile is not even a step of any kind
Thanks for posting

There's a better future for this idea; geolocated search via mobile, a community sharing not where the parking space is for sale or for rent - but there there is one right now near you.

damn my stoopid typing, I meant to say "where there is a parking space near you". And I mean by that a space on a street - or even in a giant car park.
Of course, you'd have to park to do the search in the first place - unless you hooked it up with your satnav which just points you to the space!

Read all of the comments and I wouldn’t disagree with anybody. We are introducing a mobile version that will locate parking (garages and municipal) in the coming months. Every location is geocoded behind-the-scenes so that future proximity searches can be conducted via a cell phone or PDA by entering a zip code or by selecting "Near Me" (The phone send its current GPS position). The mobile edition will return a short list of locations where you can park your car.
Current version of the website is a market place and listing service only with no mobility in the initial design.

We are a mean audience,
But a free focus group, thanks for listening and responding.
As we say they will talk about you whether you like it or not. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Best jump into the debate.
And reflecting on this thread, if you don't have a mobile offering its madness. Its exactly the service that should have been built for mobile first and the PC platform second.
The most successful service in Finland is finding the petrol station with the cheapest gas. Which is of course mobile.
Its what one might call a Need State.
Thanks for posting Steve.

Great recap, I can’t even believe you were able to write that.I got so much anxiety just watching that and I thought I was the only one who had unnatural rage/hate for Kelly, glad I’m not the only one, as I was getting concerned. These women show that you can age without maturing.

This is the type of information that should be shared around the web. Shame on the search engines for not positioning this post higher!
